New Hewitt V. Lounsbury Scholarship Fund Established
Lounsbury & Associates is pleased to announce the establishment of the Hewitt V. Lounsbury Scholarship benefitting engineering and geomatics majors at UAA. Two scholarships will be awarded each semester to degree seeking engineering and geomatics students who are encouraged to apply. Plans are for the scholarship to become a self-perpetuating endowment. Interested students should contact the financial aid office at UAA for details.
Hewitt V. Lounsbury came to Alaska in May of 1944 with the US Army Corps of Engineers. "Hoots" was born in St. Paul Minnesota, February 22, 1911 and passed away January 8, 1971. In 1946 Hewitt started a candy company called L & W Candies and later known as Brownie Bear Candies. He founded Hewitt V. Lounsbury and Associates in 1949. Hewitt served on the Anchorage City Council and was Mayor from 1958-1959. He was also an active member of the Downtown Rotary and one of the founding members of the Alaska Society of Professional Land Surveyors.
Lounsbury & Associates is the oldest continually operating surveying and engineering company in Alaska with 60 employees located in Anchorage, Wasilla and Kuparuk. Lounsbury serves a wide range of clientele across Alaska including the oil & gas industry, state & local governments, and private development in both the commercial & residential sectors. The firm will be celebrating their 60th anniversary in 2009.

Arctic Snowmachine Safety Website
Lounsbury and Associates performs much of their work in Alaska’s North Slope Oilfields. They often use snowmachines while surveying. A snowmachine safety website was therefore developed to provide snowmachine safety training for our surveyors completing work in Arctic Oil Fields.

This exciting laser scanning technology is used to obtain three dimensional data for a wide variety of civil and industrial applications.
